Things Money Can’t Buy: How Alignment With God Changes Everything

There are some things money can buy, and there are some things money can never manufacture.

You can buy a clock, but you cannot buy time.
You can buy medicine, but you cannot purchase health.
You can buy a house, but you cannot buy peace inside of it.
You can buy attention, but you cannot buy genuine love.
You can collect contacts, but you cannot purchase true friendship.
You can finance a dream, but you cannot buy the grace, favor, discipline, and courage required to walk it out.

And that is part of what these 21 days of prayer are reminding me.

As I journey in prayer with my church family, my focus is becoming increasingly clear: I do not simply want to finish this year busy. I want to finish it aligned. I do not want to merely accomplish things; I want to accomplish the right things. I want to be on point, on purpose, and on assignment.

There is a difference between movement and alignment.

We can be moving every day and still be moving in the wrong direction. We can have full calendars, full inboxes, full schedules, and full plates while our spirits are running on empty. Prayer has a way of quieting the noise long enough for God to remind us what actually matters.

Jesus said:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” : Matthew 6:33

That scripture changes the order.

Seek first.

Not the opportunity first.
Not the money first.
Not the applause first.
Not the answer first.
Not even the breakthrough first.

Seek the King first.

Because when God becomes the priority, everything else begins to find its proper place.

These 21 days are not just about asking God for things. They are about asking God to adjust me.

Split-scene of a busy status-driven life contrasted with quiet prayer, Bible, and peace

Adjust my thinking.
Adjust my priorities.
Adjust my relationships.
Adjust my habits.
Adjust my spending.
Adjust my time.
Adjust my reactions.
Adjust my vision.

Lord, show me what belongs in the next season and what I have been carrying simply because I became accustomed to carrying it.

There are dreams in our hearts that cannot be purchased in a store. There is peace we cannot put on a credit card. There is favor no amount of networking can guarantee. There are doors only God can open and, perhaps just as importantly, doors only God can give us the wisdom to stop knocking on.

That is why prayer is such a gift.

Prayer realigns our appetite.

Sometimes we begin by praying, “God, give me this,” and somewhere along the way the prayer becomes, “God, give me what You know I need.”

We begin by praying, “Change the situation,” and God begins changing us.

We begin asking for speed, and He teaches us patience.

We ask for visibility, and He develops character.

We ask for more, and sometimes He whispers, “Steward what is already in your hands.”

That is alignment.

And as this year begins moving toward its final stretch, I have no desire to drag old confusion, old distractions, unnecessary debt, fear, disappointment, or misplaced priorities across the finish line with me.

I want to finish strong, but more than that, I want to finish right.

Strong without alignment can become striving.

But strength submitted to God becomes purpose.

Proverbs 3:5–6 tells us:

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

That is my prayer for these 21 days:

Direct my path.

Not just the big decisions. The small ones too.

Show me where my time belongs.
Show me what deserves my attention.
Show me who I am called to serve.
Show me what I am supposed to build.
Show me what I am supposed to release.
Show me what requires discipline instead of another prayer for rescue.

Because sometimes the miracle is not God removing the assignment.

Sometimes the miracle is God giving us the grace to finally walk it out.

And there are things I am believing God for that only He can do. I am believing for provision, elevation, wisdom, freedom, greater capacity, and the resources necessary to fully accomplish what He has placed in my heart.

But I am also remembering Ephesians 3:20:

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think…”

God is not limited by what I can see from where I am standing.

So during these 21 days, I am praying boldly: but I am also listening carefully.

Because I do not want God simply to bless my plans.

I want my plans to agree with His.

I do not want to ask Him to accompany me somewhere He never told me to go.

I want to be able to say:

Lord, wherever You are leading, I am willing to follow.
Whatever You are correcting, I am willing to surrender.
Whatever You are developing, I am willing to endure.
Whatever You have assigned to my hands, I am ready to finish.

There are things we cannot buy.

Peace.
Purpose.
Time.
True love.
Real friendship.
Hope.
Wisdom.
God’s presence.

But they are among the richest things we can possess.

So I am entering the remainder of this year with a different definition of wealth.

I want a wealthy spirit.

A wealthy prayer life.

A wealthy sense of purpose.

A wealthy heart filled with gratitude.

And above everything else, I want to be able to look at my life and know:

I am where God wants me to be, doing what God has called me to do, with what God has placed in my hands.

For these 21 days, and for every day that follows:

Alignment is the assignment.

And by the grace of God, I intend to finish this year stronger, clearer, freer, focused, faithful: and on point with purpose.

Soul & Self-Care Daily Reflection

Before asking, “What do I want before this year ends?” perhaps the deeper question is:

“God, what do You want completed, corrected, cultivated, or released in me before this year ends?”

Because sometimes the greatest answered prayer is not receiving everything we wanted.

It is becoming the person God was preparing us to be all along.

Prayer:

Father, align my heart with Yours. Order my steps, sharpen my discernment, discipline my desires, and remove every distraction that competes with my assignment. Help me steward my time, gifts, resources, relationships, and opportunities wisely. Give me courage to release what no longer belongs and faith to pursue what You have ordained. May I finish this year strong: not merely successful by the world’s standards, but faithful in Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
