The San Fernando Valley is often overlooked in Los Angeles’ larger story, but for its Black community, it remains a place of culture, resilience, and growing influence. In this feature, we explore Mayor Karen Bass’s vision for a more unified city and her intentional engagement with Valley organizations like Black in the Valley (BITV) and the Zawadi Cultural Collective. From grassroots organizing to City Hall, Bass continues to bridge faith, culture, and civic leadership—bringing renewed attention to the “818” and the communities shaping its future.
